Mumbai: The State Cyber Cell has filed an FIR against various e-Commerce platforms for marketing T-shirts featuring images of gangster Lawrence Bisnoi and underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim. The action was initiated on Thursday after coming across social media advertisements promoting these T-shirts on platforms.
Maharashtra Cyber Department came across the products. "These e-Commerce platforms--Flipkart, AliExpress, TeeShopper and Etsy—were served notices and summoned after they were found selling T-shirts that glorify notorious gangsters photos printed on T-shirts," said DIG (Cyber) Sanjay Shintre.
He said products that idolise criminal figures pose significant risk to society by promoting a distorted image that could influence young minds negatively. "This kind of idolisation of criminal elements not only erodes societal values but also trivialises serious crimes associated with these individuals, sending a dangerous message that glamorises illegal activities. By heroising these figures in the form of merchandise risks normalising crime, creating a pathway for impressionable youth to admire and even imitate unlawful behaviour," he said.
